I made it!

I made it through 7 straight days of closing the store...whew! I am exhausted! I had the day off yesterday and I have today off too. I needed both days just to recover. My legs are so sore. I have had a bit of indigestion/stomachache the past couple of days, probably from all the candy I've been scarfing down--not good!

Aaron is out of town this week at Kennedy Space Center. He's helping install one of their payloads on the shuttle that's going up in February (I think that's when it is, anyway). He gets to be in the shuttle and everything--how freakin' cool! My husband is in something that is going up in space in a couple of months--I just hope it doesn't decide to take off early on its own with him in it. Now that's a TDY I would not be prepared for! HA HA HA! He'll be back on Friday.

Aaron's mom and stepdad are coming around next Tuesday to spend Thanksgiving with us. I have to work on Thanksgiving day but I have Wednesday and Friday off, so we are doing Thanksgiving on Wednesday and having leftovers the rest of the week! Woo hoo!

Back to the grind

I had such a wonderful weekend! Three days off with my 2 favorite guys! We had a fun family weekend playing at the park, taking naps, shopping, taking family portraits, watching football. It was a great time. We went to BJ's yesterday to watch the Colts-Pats game (since someone at CBS in Houston thought it would be a good idea to play the Texans-Raiders game instead--who cares!?!) We were going for the Colts, but it is still really hard to go against the team that our beloved Wes Welker plays for. So even though I am a Peyton Manning fan, I wasn't overly upset when the Colts lost. We just had a good time watching the game. We brought the portable DVD player in case Trent got bored with the game. He made it through the first half of the game before we had to pull out the DVD player. He's such a good boy. Saturday night we went to have our family pictures taken and he was a perfect little model! We got some great shots taken and I can't wait to get our order in! It will take about 2 weeks for them to be ready to pick up. We didn't order too many because I want to buy the CD of our session so I can get some printed for a lot cheaper!

I have to go back to work today and I'll be closing every night for the rest of the week. Aaron and Trent are going to Round Rock this weekend to watch the Tech-UT game with the Freemans and the Geveckers. I wish I could go but I have to work all weekend. They weren't going to go at first, but I urged Aaron to go ahead and go. Otherwise he'll just be at home watching the game by himself, and that's no fun! They will also be celebrating Laura's and Conly's birthdays which are Wednesday and Sunday. I'm sad I will miss being with them on their birthdays but at least my family will be represented. I'll just have to send my love with Aaron and Trent!

Halloween

Oh my gosh...so much candy.

We bought way too much candy. We weren't sure how many trick-or-treaters we would get since we are in a new place this year. We are so used to getting a million kids at our house living on base in Colorado. The first year we lived on base, we ran out of candy in about 1/2 an hour and Aaron had to go to the store to get more. So we got smart in the following years and started buying a bag of candy every time we went to the store for about a month and a half before Halloween. That was about right. Boy, did we overshoot it for our new neighborhood. We have 2 bags of candy that aren't even opened yet, and we barely got halfway through the big bowl that we started with. Guess I'll be sharing a lot of candy with the people at work.

It was sooooo nice to be able to walk around in t-shirts on Halloween night--and it was still a little warm! Quite a change from last year when we could only stand to be out for about 10 minutes before our faces were freezing. We even took some chairs out on our front porch and waited for trick-or-treaters (who didn't really come). Have I mentioned I love being in Texas?

Here's some pictures from today and a few from my trip to Lubbock a few weeks ago with Laura Freeman.

Football and work

I have been soooooo busy! I can't believe it's taken me this long to write about stuff that happened 2 weeks ago!

Our weekend with our friends was so much fun! Everyone made it to Houston safely on Friday night. Conly and Amanda told us on Friday night that they are expecting a baby in April! YEA! Hard to believe this guy...

is going to be a DADDY! Our little Conly is growing up!

Saturday was absolutely perfect aside from the extreme heat. I don't remember the last time I sweat so much...if ever. I felt so sorry for the preggers people--Laura and Amanda--especially Amanda since she is at that oh-so-fun stage of pregnancy where you feel like you're gonna hurl every second of the day. She was a champ though--I probably would not have been as tough as she was.

Here's some more pics from the weekend:

We have about a million pictures just like this from college--me on Conly's right, Laura on his left

Work has been going well. I have been working my butt off--lots of overtime, which is good because that means more money! Woo hoo! We can always use some more money! It is wearing me out, but I'm having fun.
Not much else to report...notice how I haven't mentioned the Tech vs. OSU game...yeah, moving right along. This weekend's game was MUCH better, even if it was against a crappy team. 75 points in a football game is nothing to be ashamed of, no matter who you're playing! Next weekend, we Bergers are driving to Round Rock on Thursday night, and then Laura and I are driving to Lubbock on Friday to celebrate our sorority (Kappa Delta) having been a chapter at Tech for 20 years. I'm hoping to see many of our old pledge sisters and other alumnae as well. It is also Homecoming weekend at Tech, so we will be going to the game on Saturday and I cannot wait! This will be the first time I have been at Jones Stadium (or whatever it's called now) in 5 years! That's way too long. I know this is going to sound funny, but I also can't wait to go to Rosa's, which is the best Mexican food place EVER! We're planning on going at least twice.
Will post pictures of the weekend when I get a chance!

Start tomorrow!

I start my new job at Walgreens tomorrow at 9am. I am so excited! Especially because I found out I will NOT be at a 24-hour store! What a relief! I am at Store #7020, which is in Friendswood and it is closer to home than I thought I would be--this just keeps getting better.

This weekend is the Texas Tech vs. Rice game here in Houston. We are having company come in for it and I am so excited! Kyle, Laura, and Garrett Freeman are coming down from Round Rock, but they are staying with Kyle's brother Scott and his fiance Darla. Conly and Amanda Gevecker are coming down from their new house in The Colony and are staying at our house. We are ALL going to the game on Saturday, except Trent and Garrett. We got a babysitter to come stay with the boys at our house. This is the first time in a LONG time--about 5 years!--that we will all be together. And actually, it is the first time all of us will be together since everybody got married. Too much fun! We are going to go tailgate before the game and then we may come back to our house and BBQ after the game, or we may go to Scott and Darla's since they have a pool and it's going to be hotter than hell at the game on Saturday (if it doesn't rain). We've been planning this weekend for such a long time now, and I can't believe it's really here! I'll probably post pictures from this weekend next week. In the meantime, here is a picture of Trent and his friend Yulia from our last trip to the zoo about 2 or 3 weeks ago...they're sooooooooo cute!

First blog...getting tired of MySpace

Okay, so I'm going to try this out. I figure it will be easier doing a blog in Google, since I already use Gmail for my email system. Better than having to log on to MySpace just to have them tell me they're "experiencing technical difficulties" and to try logging on later. Blech! Anyway, I didn't even know Google had a blog feature until I got an invite to my friend/sorority sister Wendy's Google blog page. So--a big shout out to Wendy for giving me the idea for this...and a little shout out to "Baby Q", the inspiration for her blog! :) WQ--I'm so excited for you and Mike! I loved reading all your blogs about your pregnancy. You are so funny!

I suppose I should write a little about what's going on with us. The main thing right now is my job situation. I wanted to become a teacher more than anything in the world (and still do), but I couldn't seem to find a job for this school year. I could substitute teach again this year, but #1--the pay is crappy, and #2--it feels more like a babysitting job than actual teaching. I don't feel like I'm getting good experience subbing, and I think if I had to sub for another year, I would be very jaded against the education field and wouldn't want to teach. So for now, I am going to bow out of education, and maybe next year something will come up. Which brings me to the events of the past few days. I had 2 interviews on Friday--one with Walgreens and one with Abercrombie Kids, both were for management positions. I did the Walgreens management internship back in college, and the manager that interviewed me offered me the job right after the interview without even talking to the other interviewees he had set up for the rest of the day. I told him I had another interview that afternoon and he told me to see what they had to offer and let him know what I decide. So I went to the Abercrombie interview, which turned out to be a "pre-screening" interview, meaning the guy interviewing me couldn't offer me a job. He could only turn over my information to the District Manager, who would then call me for a 2nd interview, blah blah blah. It seems like a good opportunity, but I think it would be less money, and after agonizing over it all weekend, weighing all the options, pros and cons of both jobs, and being advised by several people to take the Walgreens job.......I'm taking the Walgreens job! I am really excited about it because this means so much for my family. It's going to be rough for a while, as I will be working really awful hours and working on holidays, but if I pay my dues for a while, it will get a lot better and I will make even more money! Money is a much needed commodity in our house right now! And this job will also provide wonderful experience. I'm so ready to jump in head first and throw myself into this job and build an actual career for myself. If I get to teach in the future, GREAT...if I don't, this is something I can build on and be happy doing! That's all I've got for now! Wish me luck!
